20 Dec Good news from the desk of Bruce Dennison – it’s almost 2020!
There’s always HOPE
As 2019 draws to an interesting and challenging conclusion, we bid farewell to the second decade of the 21st century and look forward to the exciting developments that await us in 2020 and beyond.
The past months and years have been a time of great anticipation in the South African complementary medicines industry, with countless hours of negotiations and legislative input culminating in the drafting of the new SAHPRA guidelines.
This development represents a major step forward for our industry and we fully expect the sector to benefit in 2020 and beyond.
Streamlined SAHPRA licensing: good for business
With the increased recognition and proper licensing of complementary medicines, we expect excellent growth in the sector in the years to come.
After the initial roll out of the new SAHPRA licensing process, which we expect to take place in the first quarter of 2020, the market should open up considerably to companies looking to bring new products to the market.
- SAHPRA licensing applications will be submitted online using a new streamlined system.
- Applicants should receive a response from the Department within 15 days – three weeks of submission – this is a significant improvement in turnaround time.
- There is a 6-month period during which all license applications must take place. This period will only begin once the new system is rolled out, and not on 1 January 2020 as originally inferred.
The new licensing will provide an exciting opportunity for importers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and practitioners of complementary medicines, and especially dietary food supplements, to bring new products to the market
As always, we will be on hand to assist with any queries you may have. Please contact me on +2783 273 2021 or email me at email@example.com with any questions you might have or if you need guidance with your early submission.
On a final note, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful, relaxing festive season and a prosperous 2020. I look forward to working with you in 2020 – a year which holds so much promise for the complementary medicines sector.
